Sinds het begin van de HIV-epidemie maakt deze surveillance het mogelijk om de trends in het aantal mensen met de diagnose HIV en het aantal patiënten in medische follow-up te volgen, evenals om bepaalde sociaal-demografische factoren te identificeren die verband houden met het risico op HIV-infectie of van een pejoratieve klinische uitkomst. Deze informatie helpt gezondheidsautoriteiten en hiv-stakeholders om te beslissen over empirisch onderbouwde hiv-preventie- en zorgstrategieën en doelgroepen te definiëren voor op maat gemaakte interventies. Statbel verzamelt, produceert en verspreidt betrouwbare en relevante cijfers over de Belgische economie, samenleving en territorium. De verzameling is gebaseerd op administratieve gegevensbronnen en enquêtes. Dit project heeft tot doel de hiv-surveillancegegevens te koppelen aan geselecteerde Statbel-informatie. Dit zal het mogelijk maken de kwaliteit van de HIV-surveillancegegevens aanzienlijk te verbeteren door de reeds door Sciensano verzamelde gegevens aan te vullen met aanvullende sociaal-economische en sociaal-demografische informatie over patiëntenprofielen, ontbrekende gegevens in de Sciensano-database in te vullen met demografische gegevens van Statbel, de vitale status van verloren-to-follow-uppatiënten vast te stellen en de informatie over doodsoorzaken aan te vullen. Diese Informationen unterstützen Gesundheitsbehörden und HIV-Stakeholder bei der Entscheidung über evidenzbasierte HIV-Präventions- und -Pflegestrategien und definieren Zielgruppen für maßgeschneiderte Interventionen. Statbel, das belgische Statistikamt, sammelt, erstellt und verbreitet zuverlässige und relevante Zahlen über die belgische Wirtschaft, Gesellschaft und das belgische Staatsgebiet.
