Die renommierten Iguanodons aus Bernissart, Botschafter des belgischen Wissenschaftsinstituts in Brüssel, repräsentieren eine naturhistorische Sammlung, die derzeit auf über 37 Millionen Exemplare geschätzt wird. Die Wurzeln der heutigen Kollektion reichen weit in die Geschichte zurück. Es entstand aus der naturhistorischen Sammlung von Karel von Lotharingen, Gouverneur der Niederlande (1712-1780) und war Teil des didaktischen Materials der Zentralschule der Stadt Brüssel. Nach der Unabhängigkeit Belgiens schenkte die Stadt Brüssel die Sammlung der belgischen Regierung und wurde 1846 Teil des autonomen Königlichen Naturhistorischen Museums, das seit 1948 als Königliches Belgisches Institut für Naturwissenschaften bekannt ist. Feldarbeit von Forschern und Mitarbeitern, in Belgien und im Ausland, Spenden und Einkäufe haben das Vermögen seitdem erweitert. Die hier vorgestellten Daten stammen aus der darwin-Datenbank, dem Sammlungsmanagement-Tool des RBINS. Heute verwaltet die darwin-Datenbank Informationen zu rund 350.000 Exemplaren, die in den Depots des Instituts aufbewahrt werden. Diese Zahl steigt täglich dank der kontinuierlichen Bemühungen der Kuratoren und ihrer Mitarbeiter, die für die Pflege der gespeicherten Exemplare und Informationen verantwortlich sind. Unsere Online-Datenbank bietet Informationen über die Sammlungen der Wirbeltiere, Wirbellosen, Entomologie und Paläobotanik. Die Anwendung wird in Kürze um paläontozoologische Daten erweitert. De gerenommeerde Iguanodons uit Bernissart, ambassadeurs van het Belgische wetenschapsinstituut in Brussel, vertegenwoordigen een natuurhistorische collectie die momenteel naar schatting meer dan 37 miljoen exemplaren bevat. De wortels van de huidige collectie gaan ver terug in de geschiedenis. Het evolueerde uit de natuurhistorische collectie van Karel van Lotharingen, gouverneur van Nederland (1712-1780) en maakte deel uit van didactische materialen die eigendom waren van de Centrale School van de Stad Brussel. Na de onafhankelijkheid van België schonk de Stad Brussel de collectie aan de Belgische regering en werd in 1846 deel van het autonome Koninklijk Natuurhistorisch Museum, sinds 1948 bekend als het Koninklijk Belgisch Instituut voor Natuurwetenschappen. Veldwerk door onderzoekers en medewerkers, in binnen- en buitenland, schenkingen en aankopen breiden de troeven sindsdien uit. De hier gepresenteerde gegevens zijn afkomstig uit de darwin-database, de collectiebeheertool van het KBIN. Tegenwoordig beheert de darwin-database informatie over ongeveer 350.000 specimens die zijn opgeslagen in de depots van het instituut. Dit aantal stijgt dagelijks dankzij de voortdurende inspanningen van curatoren en hun assistenten die verantwoordelijk zijn voor het onderhoud van de opgeslagen exemplaren en informatie. Onze online database bevat informatie over de collecties van de gewervelde dieren, ongewervelde dieren, entomologie en paleobotanie. De toepassing zal binnenkort worden uitgebreid met paleontozoologische gegevens. Het Departement Geologie en het Departement Mariene Ecosystemen geven informatie over verschillende systemen. Les célèbres Iguanodons de Bernissart, ambassadeurs de l'Institut belge des sciences à Bruxelles, représentent une collection d'histoire naturelle actuellement estimée à plus de 37 millions de spécimens. Les racines de la collection actuelle remontent loin dans l'histoire. Il a évolué à partir de la collection d'histoire naturelle de Karel de Lotharingen, gouverneur des Pays-Bas (1712-1780) et faisait partie du matériel didactique appartenant à l'école centrale de la ville de Bruxelles. Après l'indépendance de la Belgique, la ville de Bruxelles a fait don de la collection au gouvernement belge et a fait partie du Musée royal d'histoire naturelle autonome en 1846, connu sous le nom d'Institut royal des sciences naturelles de Belgique depuis 1948. Le travail de terrain des chercheurs et collaborateurs, en Belgique et à l'étranger, les dons et les achats ont élargi les atouts depuis. Les données présentées ici proviennent de la base de données darwin, l'outil de gestion des collections du RBINS. Aujourd'hui, la base de données darwin gère des informations sur environ 350 000 spécimens stockés dans les dépôts de l'institut.
