La Directive européenne 2007/2/CE - Directive INSPIRE - établit une infrastructure d'information géographique dans la Communauté européenne. INSPIRE s'applique à 34 domaines thématiques répartis en 3 Annexes. La présente couche de données géographiques contient les informations relatives aux dénominations géographiques sur le territoire wallon (Annexe 1.3). Au sens de la Directive, les éléments considérés comme des dénominations géographiques sont : "des noms de zones, de régions, de localités, de grandes villes, de banlieues, de villes moyennes ou d'implantations, ou tout autre élément géographique ou topographique d'intérêt public ou historique". La couche de données reprend donc la localisation, sous forme ponctuelle, des éléments suivants : - Unités administratives wallonnes (Région, Provinces, Communes); - Anciennes communes wallonnes; - Hameau et lieux-dits; - Éléments patrimoniaux repris au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO (ensemble architectural, monument); - Sites du réseau Natura 2000 et sites naturels protégés classés par l'IUCN (réserves forestières, cavités souterraines d'intérêt scientifique, réserves naturelles agréées et domaniales, zones humides d'intérêt biologique). Le point est positionné à l'endroit le plus significatif de la zone ou du lieu concerné (centroïde, ville ou objet spécifiques, etc.) et permet de l'identifier. Chaque point est caractérisé par un identifiant, l'endonyme de la zone/du lieu (nom employé régulièrement et couramment dans la langue officielle), la source de données, une description, la langue de référence, etc. Lorsque c'est possible, les toponymes sont inscrits en plusieurs langues (maximum 4 - français, néerlandais, allemand, anglais). Une analyse métier des données produites par le Service public de Wallonie a été menée afin de déterminer si elles s'intégraient ou non au thème "Dénominations géographiques". Les données viennent de sources multiples et sont gérées par différents gestionnaires de données (opérateurs techniques) internes au Service public de Wallonie. Cette couche de données fait l'objet d'une mise à jour continue." @default.

Voor de toepassing van de richtlijn worden als geografische aanduidingen beschouwd: "namen van gebieden, regio's, plaatsen, grote steden, voorsteden, middelgrote steden of nederzettingen, of andere geografische of topografische kenmerken van openbaar of historisch belang". De gegevenslaag omvat daarom de locatie, in een ad-hocvorm, van de volgende elementen: - Waalse administratieve eenheden (regio, provincies, gemeenten); - Voormalige Waalse gemeenten; - gehucht en plaatsen; - Erfgoedelementen opgenomen in de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO (architecturaal ensemble, monument); Natura 2000-netwerkgebieden en beschermde natuurgebieden die door de IUCN zijn aangewezen (bosreservaten, ondergrondse holten van wetenschappelijk belang, erkende natuurreservaten en natuurreservaten in staatseigendom, wetlands van biologisch belang). Het punt bevindt zich op de belangrijkste plaats in het betrokken gebied of de betrokken plaats (kernkern, stad of specifiek object, enz.) en maakt het mogelijk om het te identificeren. Elk punt wordt gekenmerkt door een identificator, het eindoniem van het gebied/de plaats (naam die regelmatig en vaak in de officiële taal wordt gebruikt), de gegevensbron, een beschrijving, de referentietaal enz. De gegevens komen uit meerdere bronnen en worden beheerd door verschillende gegevensbeheerders (technische operatoren) binnen de Waalse overheidsdienst. Die Datenschicht enthält daher in punktueller Form die Lokalisierung folgender Elemente: - Wallonische Verwaltungseinheiten (Region, Provinzen, Gemeinden); - Ehemalige wallonische Gemeinden; - Weiler und Ortschaften; - UNESCO-Welterbestätten (Architekturkomplex, Denkmal); - Natura-2000-Gebiete und von der IUCN ausgewiesene Naturschutzgebiete (Waldreservate, unterirdische Hohlräume von wissenschaftlichem Interesse, anerkannte und staatliche Naturschutzgebiete, Feuchtgebiete von biologischem Interesse). Der Punkt wird an der aussagekräftigsten Stelle des betreffenden Gebiets oder Ortes (Kentroid, Stadt oder spezifisches Objekt usw.) positioniert und ermöglicht es, ihn zu identifizieren. Jeder Punkt ist gekennzeichnet durch eine Kennung, den Endonym des Gebiets/Orts (der Name wird regelmäßig und häufig in der Amtssprache verwendet), die Datenquelle, eine Beschreibung, die Referenzsprache usw. Nach Möglichkeit werden die Ortsnamen in mehreren Sprachen eingetragen (maximal 4 - Französisch, Niederländisch, Deutsch, Englisch). Eine fachliche Analyse der vom Öffentlichen Dienst der Wallonie erstellten Daten wurde durchgeführt, um festzustellen, ob sie sich in das Thema "Geografische Bezeichnungen" einfügen oder nicht. Die Daten stammen aus mehreren Quellen und werden von verschiedenen Datenverwaltern (technischen Betreibern) innerhalb des öffentlichen Dienstes der Wallonie verwaltet.
